EMERGENCY EVACUATION POLICY AND PROCEDURES

 

All staff members and visitors on discovering a fire, raise the alarm

 

Our staff is in charge of the safety of your children.

 

The Assembly Point is located on the green area behand N1 situated on the right of the premise

 

Policy statement

 

We ensure our premises present no risk of fire by ensuring the highest possible standard of fire precautions. All staff members are familiar with our Emergency Evacuation Procedure and the Manager is familiar with current legal requirements.

Where necessary we seek the advice of a Fire Officer or a Fire Safety Consultant.

All our electrical equipments are PAT tested to prevent any danger to anyone (Portable Appliance Testing PAT is a legal requirement).

We practice regular Fire/Emergency Drills.

 

All Staff Members

Staff members on hearing the fire alarm or on discovering a fire:

  • Calmly call children in your care together
  • Visually check the space around you is empty
  • Leave the building using the nearest, safe emergency exit
  • Walk to the Assembly Point situated in the car park
  • Headcount the children in your care, alerting the manager if any are missing
  • Remain outside the building until the Fire Officer deems the building is safe

 

The Manager

The Manager on duty is the Fire Marshal

The Manager on hearing the fire alarm or on discovering a fire:

If possible, put on the fluorescent jackets stored in the office

  • Assign the management of the children in your care to a member of staff
  • Collect the telephone, visitors book and parents contact information folder if safe to do so
  • Sweep through the building including kitchen and toilets to check for children or visitors left behind
  • Ensure that the registers have been collected by other staff members
  • Leave the building using the nearest fire exit
  • Ensure that the fire brigade have been alerted if not call 999
  • Walk to the Assembly Point and ensure that staff members, visitors and children do not return into the building    until the Fire Officer deems it is safe
  • Ensure that the children have been counted and that no child is missing
  • Headcount the staff and visitors
  • Remain outside of the building until a member of the fire authority deems it safe to return
  • Once the Fire Office confirms that the building is safe, advice staff and visitors that the building is safe
  • Ensure that all children and staff have returned into the building, headcount the children
  • Record the emergency evacuation in the emergency evacuation folder
  • Inform parents that there has been an emergency evacuation at the nursery and that their children are safe.

 

All Visitors:

Visitors on hearing the fire alarm or on discovering a fire:

-           Immediately leave the building using the nearest and safe emergency exit

-           Calmly walk to the Assembly Point situated in car park

-           Do not return into the building until the Manager confirms that it is safe to do so

-           Do not leave without signing the visitors book

 

All Parents:

On hearing the fire alarm or on discovering a fire:

 

If your child is already signed out of the register:

-          Immediately and calmly leave the building taking your child with you, using the nearest and safe fire exit

-          If you have other children attending the nursery, do not return to collect them, the staff is here to ensure their safety

-          Walk with your child to the Assembly Point

-          Let a member of staff know that your child is safe and already in your care

-          Advice a member of staff before leaving

-          Do not return into the building until the Manager confirms that it is safe to do so

 

If your child is not yet signed you of the register:

-           Immediately leave the premise using the nearest emergency exit

-           Do not take your child with you and do not return to collect your child, the staff is here to ensure their safety.

-           Walk to the Assembly Point

-           Advice a member of staff before leaving

-           Do not return into the building until the Manager confirms that it is safe to do so

 

PARENTS/CARERS MUST NOT REMOVE CHILDREN FROM THE NURSERY IN AN EMERGENCY WITHOUT THE KNOWLEGDE OF THE NURSERY STAFF.

 

 

Contingency Plan

In an emergency during which the Fire Officer have declared the building unsafe, the children will be taken into No 2, this is the building on the right of the nursery.

If this building is not accessible, the Manager will retrieve the Emergency Kit from the shed and issue blankets to all children.

The Manager will contact all parents/carers to advise them of the situation and tell them that they need to make immediate collection arrangement for their child.

Staff will sign out each child as they leave our care.

No staff can leave the premises until every child is collected and accounted for by the Manager.
